[Coco] Xroar + Windows 8 = zero

Well, gents,
I've been trying to run the precompiled version of Xroar on my Windows 
8.1 machine.

The programme starts fine, and using the mouse, I can use the menu 
system, but clicking on something like "Insert disk" is ignored.
I do not have MinGW installed on this computer (would it even work?) Is 
there a way around this? Is there a revision coming up?
