On the flipside, when it comes to a machine that runs virtually, if it could do so dynamically (think: a hardware "MESS" emulator machine, with modules for different things), it gives the benefit of a machine being whatever you want, so you use it like you want, but if someone sends you a program written for Virtual Speech Pak, you can run it... Or Virtual WordPack+, you can run it... Interesting.
In a way, it's like the real hardware was. There were things written for Hi-Res joystick or Speech Pak many never got to run 'cause they didn't have that hardware. In the early years, disk software was like that for me when I just had cassette...
But I suppose latching on a 32-bit "something" accessory wouldn't be very CoCo-like.
