> Those little HLK-RM04 modules are 99% there. Just need to add a MAX232 and some power. It can be made to OpenWRT. I bought a couple to mess around with but haven’t had time. I plan to embed one inside a TRS-80 Model 100. I’ll tie the serial port to the Linux console and then I can ssh out from there.

A Pi with a wifi dongle will get you most of the way there, and I wrote 
SW (called tcpser) that emulates a Hayes modem, so you can use std 
telecomm packages.
