I have several 3.5" drives hooked to CoCos.
3.5" drives without jumpers or switches need a twisted cable.  Basically you 
need to figure out which drive select line you want to go to the 3.5" drives 
drive select 1 line.  So you should be able to run a single non-adjustable 
3.5" drive as drive 1.  To use it as drive 0 you need to twist the 1 and 0 
select lines so the 1 line is available for the other drive.  Another option 
is to pull the drive select lines to a DPDT switch wired as a reversing 
switch so your 5.25" and 3.5" drives can be switched.
