[Coco] What would your ideal CoCo cartridge do?

Does it need to emulate the UART that the Deluxe RS-232 port uses, or could it emulate something better and incompatible like the 16550?

Is there any existing software that knows how to print to anything other than the built in serial port? I'm wondering if a cartridge parallel port would work with any existing software or just with stuff like nitros9 that a new driver could be written for.
