If I'm recalling correctly (and I may not be), didn't Mary inherit a
bunch of CoCo stuff from her father, without previously having any
interest in the CoCo?

My impression was that her CoCo activities came about as a sort of
tribute to him, rather than from any intrinsic interest in the CoCo.
