Nice Nick!
I always start with my GUI on my software for the same reasons. It inspires me to go farther. I like to see something when I run tests so my frontend is always first. I have sat and stressed for hours to make perfectly centered text and color matched text lines with evenly space columns just to front a 10 minute hack job utility :-)
