I've been doing quite a bit of Arduino work too, so I look forward to seeing what you are up to. I needed more I/O pins than the Uno had, and I found the Teensy 2.0 -- can be programmed using the same IDE the same way. This Atari joystick to iPad interface is similar to what I am doing for the CoCo:
