These only work if the keyboard supports it. Many USB keyboards still support PS/2, internally, and those adapters let the signals go through. Much like how some PCs have a cheap cable that goes from the VIDEO port to Audio/Video cables. It only works on PCs that specifically are wired to support it.

As PS/2 grows more distant, less USB keyboards seem to be supporting the PS/2 mode. :(
