I doubt any process engineer would learn anything new from a 30+ year old
wafer. I also think Googorola has better things to do than go after people
who possess such curiosities. I'm sure Intel/AMD/Nvidia would have a
different take on that, though.
Good info in the thread- the ink markings are particularly interesting. If I
had it I'd probably wash them off before putting it into some sort of
display case.

Where I work (next to one of the largest fabs in the US) removing a wafer
from the premises merits a quick trip to the unemployment line - if not to
court. Doesn't matter how old it is. There's potentially a lot of
proprietary information to be gleaned from a bare wafer.
