Here is a interesting idea I just had.

Just remember you'll need a level shifter between the Raspberry Pi and
anything
with 5V logic, like the coco. The RPi GPIO lines are 3.3v.
Adafruit has a nice, inexpensive bi-directional level shifter for the Rpi.
