You guys must be doing something wrong. :)

If you press F9, you will get "signal missing" but just ignore it. What is 
crucial is to FIRST press F1 and hold it down throughout the rest of the 
process. After pressing and holding F1, press F9 TWICE.

This works with VCC 1.42 and probably earlier versions.
