[Coco] Disk drive question

Thanks Mr Gault,
Currently, I have no way to transfer an image to "real" disk. I also did some checking and the docs to the 2 meg upgrade said nothing of patching INIT. The only patching mentioned was to the graphics drivers for using the memory for graphics. Also I did have one level II disk that would boot but it has started failng. I really think the problem is dirty heads or head alignment or they may even need de-magnatizing(?). I know we used to de-magnatize tape heads every so often as the heads run over the media so much that eventually they become magnatized, therefore erasing as they write. I cleaned the heads with q-tips and alcohol but I really need a wet clean disk and they are pretty hard to find. I did find a few on the net but have to wait till I can spare the funds to order as they think these things are rare and vintage... well... I guess they are.

On another note, are there any special jumper settings needed to use a Coco 5.25 drive on a PC? The 3 drives I have are a 5.25 40trk DS (D0), 5.25 80trk DS (D2) and 3.5 80trk DS (D1). I do have a couple of old 3.5" 1.4meg drives that came with PCs. The drive is set for drive 0 on the Coco. The only setting in the PC BIOS for floppies is "3.5" 1.4meg" or "Disabled" I've tried all the utilities you suggested for transfer but none seem to recognize the drive. I know I used to do transfers a few years back with an older computer that allowed me to set the drives for 720k. But alas.. that machine no longer runs.

Bill,
I have just tested stock OS-9 Level-II v2.00.01 on both a real Coco3 512K 6309
nd a real Coco3 8Meg 6809 system. Both boot without any problems. That means
hatever is wrong with your system, it does not seem to be related to the
uggestions made about Level-II not working with more than 512K.
If you want to send an image of the boot disk you are currently working with, I
an test it. Or I can send you a boot disk image that works on my systems.
Robert
