I was thinking that an inexpensive FPGA development board and 
programming software, a complete "starter kit", would be nice! Something 
simple that could be run from Windows and/or Linux (I think Linux 
support would be more important than Mac for experimenters) and plugged 
into a USB port. I'd be okay with requiring WINE for Linux, as long as 
it was verified to work reliably under WINE.
