Thanks for the clarification. Then the original controller 3022 which had the WD1793 
predates the FD500. I have the 3022 (large case), FD501 and FD502 (both small case). 
Never had the FD500. The real differences that I see between the FD501 and FD502 is the 
crystal frequency changes from 16 MHz to 8 MHz oscillator. Also the drive cable connector 
has inductors inline for EMI reduction.
