I never had a 1080 or a 1084 myself, I had a maggy 8CM515, buckets sharper.

Little known trivia bit:  The honest to goodness Commode-door monitor cable 
actually had a 74LS02 to do exactly that, encapsulated into the molded 
backshell of that DB23 connector.  I know, I carved 2 of them open 
carefully with a dremel and replaced the chip when it got blown.  Not even 
commie's tech folks would admit to that, preferring instead to sell yet 
another $29.95 cable, or worse yet, a $159.95 genlock board.

I am glad you reminded me of that, it is also quite do-able.

BTW, that isn't true composite, but its close enough for most of the girls 
we go with if you don't mind a wee bit of horizontal jitter in the top 2 or 
3 lines of the video.
