To anyone in the path of Irene: take it from someone who has been
through 3 hurricanes in the past few years... you will lose power.
maybe hours, maybe days, maybe even weeks. When preparing, think
about how your life without power will be. Here at least, it was
never a "doomsday" situation, nobody starved or couldn't get water,
nothing like that. It was just life without power for a long, long
time. Stores and gas stations were back up and running on generators
a day or two after the storm, so getting provisions and such really
has never been an issue, but things to make life without electricity
nicer like generators or propane stoves/grills etc were basically sold
out everywhere for many days.
Good luck and be safe!
