John,

Your help on the makefiles is very much welcome.  The problem with the makefiles are that there is a lot of redundancy in them.  I'm not an expert makefile writer, so I would welcome a review of what is being done to see if there is a way to optimize and streamline. Also, there is a makefile hierarchy which builds the entire project, and some parts of the tree depend on others to be built. 

Let's discuss this offline and see how you can assist.
