[Coco] Multi-Pak card edge connectors.

Wasn't aware of the power thing, I figured since they were smaller they'd use less power, but, never really looked into it that far - obviously. Price wise, all of these chips thru Jameco were usually 1/2 price for SMT on the ones that I checked.

Brian

SMT parts save you real estate only. Same power and often the same price.

While SMT would certainly be cheaper component wise, use far less real-estate and be less power hungry, I do not have lots of experience soldering SMT parts (I've done three - fortunately they all worked...). If this works, I could foresee an SMT version that could be made to fit into an existing MPI case for those who want to at least maintain the appearance of an original piece. I think this DIP unit is going to be too large for this. Then again, your CPLD idea would be even better... ;)

I've got the schematic done, per Tom's original layout. I'm going to go ahead and finish the PCB layout according to that, and then make any recommended changes that are discussed prior to paying for a PCB to be made. This is not something I intend to market or anything (something morally wrong with profiting from the work of others). But, if I am successful in getting this to work, all of the files and data will be made available to anyone who wants to do the project.
