[Coco] floppy disk controller question for those that still use them

Greetings all;
I have developed an odd problem and in my attempts to trouble-shoot it, I
have found that one of my floppy controllers, a shack 3029, actually has a
Fujitsu MB8877A fdc chip in it.
I can boot my nitros9 system from any controller in slot 3 that actually has
the DOS command in its eprom.
If I boot from an SC-II and go thru what it takes to restore floppy access, a
dir /d0 works just fine.
But if I boot that exact disk using the shack 3029 controller, the disk is
"wrong type".
Is this a known incompatibility between the WD1773 in the SC-II and the
MB8877A in the 26-3029?
