I never understood why more folks don't wear ear protection onstage.  I 
played professionally for a number of years (still get up and whang away 
for fun now and then) and _always_ wore those little foam earplugs.  In 
the days when I had hair, no one could even see them :-).

Could still hear the whine of a television flyback transformer after 
getting off the road.  Finally lost a good chunk of my hearing to an 
unfortunate choice of antibiotic.  Life can be strange.
