this you can probably fix with the tmode command.  Some systems send
different things for backspace, so default can't work for everyone.

tmode bsp=XX

where XX is the ascii value of whatever your system sends for
backspace.  there are lots of other things you can set up with tmode
too.  eko, alf, bse, del, bso all might need tweaking depending on the
terminal you use.
