I will state flat out that the Color Computer cassette interface was at least twice as fast as any stock Commodore disk system prior to the Amiga.  No need to discuss Commodore, Atari or Apple tape subsystems -- even the TRS-80 Model One, badmouthed that its tape system was, was more reliable than those -- most users of the other machines bought overpriced floppy drives so quickly they forgot the reason why, while TRS-80 users could wait for a sale.  Mod One tape systems were around longer, (because they _usually_ worked rather than _sometimes_ worked like those other machines) so there was more time to badmouth them.  The Atari cassette system was especially nasty as I recall.
