That would focus to much IR light onto the die and probably damage from 
excessive heat. 

A simple eraser can be made with a timer and a UV (Black light)lamp. A 
small bulb about 10 watts will do.  There is a trade off of how much UV 
energy and time to erase a chip without damage.
