I think the cassette port would be a more logical choice for audio input. I remember typing in some program that used the cassette audio to affect a kaleidoscope or something. I believe the audio spectrum analyzer also used the cassette port for audio input. Simple enough to plug your cassette cable into the PC sound card or mp3 player.

This guy apparently created an entire VHS tape full of Coco-created
videos that was frequently played at Emo's, a fairly well-known Texas
bar and venue for live music. Cool stuff!
I've actually toyed with the idea of trying to create an
iTunes-visualizer-esque program for the Coco. I've written several
little programs that create abstract patterns on their own, of
course, but it'd be fun to do something that might respond to the
amplitude of an audio signal -- presumably via the joystick port?
