So I *SHOULD* be able to get the "Total 802.11 Super G Atheros" thingy
in the Toshiba Satellite A75 running debian Sarge, working without much
trouble, right? Do I need to get the MadWiFi code?
0000:02:02.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212
802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
The optical drive barely works. It is pretty much useless reading CD-Rs
(Had to install Debian by putting the disk in my trusty old Satellite
2775XDVD (piii at 650)). How hard is it to upgrade to a better one (i.e.
optical drive)?
hdc: MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ-820S, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
While I am wasting everyones time, does anyone know where I can get
some internet entries for the /etc/apt/sources.list file. This is part
of Debian's package manager system.
Thanks!
More useless info:
52 W Toshiba Satellite A75 (p4 at 3200), Linux kernel 2.6.8-2,
idle
104 W above busy building Firefox 2.0.0.1
16 W Toshiba Satellite 2775XDVD (piii at 650), Linux
kernel 2.4.31, idle, display off
22 W above, display on
32 W above, display off, busy sending random numbers to
dev/null (100% cpu)
39 W above, display on, ... (100% cpu)
Measured with a P3 international Kill A Watt meter. The 2775 was not
charging its battery. The A75 apparently can't run off the AC adapter
and charge the battery at the same time?!? Sometimes it will also switch
to the battery if it feels like it. When the battery dies it will switch
off. Even with the AC adapter connected and live?!? Its either sorta
broken. Or the guy who thought it was a good idea to put fan inlets on
the bottom was the lead engineer. I am currently unable to get the
Radeon 9000 in the A75 to use a native driver. So no DPMS for the A75
(i.e. display off). Power factor for both is bad (upper 50s to low 60s).
Guess its more environmentally responsible to use the 2775, huh?
