PS: Are these car brands at all known in the US?

Fiat used to be sold in the US. If they still are, I never see any around here.
My father used to run a body shop. I remember when a customer left two Fiat sedans, one wrecked in front and one wrecked in the rear.  Dad cut them both in half and welded the good halves together.  I'd be happy to have a hundredth of his 
knowledge.
