I use MESS 0.117.
Bob, I've noticed that the COCO2 emulation appears to be broken. I think it
is the ROM. When I start it up, everytime I hit a key, the Disk Extended
Basic message comes up. Three or four times of that and it locks up.

Still, the latest thing just happens to be what you are describing, from
"war driving" to tapping into the closest open network you can see, and even
a lot of the wireless products on the market include some kind of slogan on
the boxes or ads, saying something to the extend, "share your connection
with the neighbors" or "create a neighborhood network", etc. which is sort
of promoting the idea of an open wireless world. Ofcourse, this is the
cable and DSL provider's worst fears that the neighbors will get a free ride
off of somebody's single connection. The minute I bought my wireless router
I secured it. Change the password often, though, because there are tools
that can probe the security doors until it guesses the password. It takes
sometimes millions of tries, but when you notice your bandwidth dropping to
dial-up speed sometimes when you're not doing anything it kinda makes you
wonder if someone is doing just that. There's also the measure of using the
directional antennas, like the Cantenna, for a good purpose, of helping keep
your signal focused inside of your house in a beam instead of escaping in a
huge radiation globe for all to see.
Secure your network. Go into your router (usually 192.168.1.1) and simply
enable the security feature. This should keep your neighbors and war
drivers out of your system, and even then use the firewall and sharing
priveledges under Windows/Linux, etc. to keep intruders out of your files,
even if they can somehow tap into your internet connection if the router is
open.

afford Internet. He discovered one of his neighbors had a wireless hub
and he could connect to it. He used it for a couple of months before he
could afford his own connection.
Most wireless hubs come from the factory with security turned off and
most people just take it out of the box,
hook it up and start using it. LOL

I've left mine on most of the time for a similar reason - for the sake
of sharing. It's only a 'B' so nothing too speedy to slow my (mainly)
wired connection... One of these days I'll look for a good freeware
app to monitor what external users are going to (although the ISP does
some of that), just in case ;)

I need to find out if the Glenside IDE Interface board will wok in the
Dragon Computer?
Anyone here have information on the Dragon computers. Like does the slot
connector have the same pin out as Color Computer, would the software
run OK or will it need to be changed.
Any info would be appreciated by the me and the Dragon users.

Hi gang,
Can someone else confirm what I'm seeing here?
TSEDIT doesn't work with MESS. I'm using V0.116.
I *know* that since it is a Level 1 V1.0.0 boot disk, it won't work on a
coco3. The disk image boots to the shell prompt on the Coco2 emulation, but
accepts no keyboard input.
Has anyone else tried this?

The cartrige connector is I believe the same, cirtainly I have used the
Speach Sound pack on the Dragon with no problems, I am also the person
who ported the Dragon SuperDos to work with the CoCo FD-500 cart, this
also works, and has been tested by a couple of people other than me.

If the IDE board has onboard firmware, this would need to be modified to
work on the Dragon as the Basic ROM has different entry points, and
slightly different system area organisation. Under OS-9/Nitros I would
imagine that it would work as on a CoCo 1/2.
A more serious issue would be that like the CoCo the Draons only have a
single expansion slot, so to connect the IDE board and the FDC cart you
would need a Multi-Pak or equivelent, I don't know of anyone who has
tried such a setup on the Dragon, though I know no reason why it should
not work.
