No, hotlinking is mainly directly referencing graphics or downloads
that are located on somebody else's server which uses their bandwidth
instead of yours.
<img src="http://www.coco3.com/img/somepicture.jpg"> would show the
picture on your site, but would pull it from mine.
This is not a huge concern but I have to reduce bandwidth and
increase response time since the site is now pulling in mega hits,
and I also have large downloads on the same server, like Portal-9 and Rainbow.
Another reason... go to Google and type in "color computer" and look
who's up top. One of the side effects of all my hard work getting an
excellent s.e. ranking is that a lot of non-CoCo visitors are
dropping in simply because the listing shows up now for fewer
keywords, and I feel that a lot of people just click it to see if it
matches what they're looking for. The site has been sluggish in the
past and sometimes when I'm trying to upload new files, the FTP
server lags on me as if the site is under strain (at times).
Ofcourse, I don't think that an occasional hit to my logo image from
your site is doing me in :) but it's a global switch for the hotlink
protection to work.
Mary, you were the only one who wrote and said you couldn't see any
images on the site. This is bizarre. Who is your ISP and are you
using some kind of proxy server? I'm not sure this would do it, but
any clues will help me fix the problem.
