That's part of the site header and can't be removed.  With a 
wheel-mouse you can drop down and back up pretty quick to see 
messages that have scrolled too far down the screen. This also 
depends on your video setting.

There is no support for the 800x600 display mode.  If it works for 
some pages, that's great, but not all content rich pages can fit 
right into such a small area.
