My first job as a graduate had me working on an IBM 370 running MVS and
CICS. Prior to that it was PR1ME minis running PR1MOS??? and VAXes
running VMS as an undergrad doing work experience, which mostly involved
doing the weekly/monthly backups to magnetic tape.
As for experiences, nothing memorable at all, unfortunately. I hated
every minute of it. A job in 'Data Security' sounded pretty good to
someone fresh out of uni but in reality involved collecting printouts of
'security violations' each morning, stapling them to "please explain"
forms, sending them through internal mail to the perpetrator, and filing
them when they got back.
The best part was having access to the computer room on stinking hot
summer days!
Regards,
Mark
