[Coco] S-video Prospects...

Hi,

The fact remains that the AD72x IC and a few passive parts are all that is
needed to do the conversion for the CoCo 3.

If someone else other than Analog has produced a chip that does the same job
that would be fine if the external parts count is similar.

As he does not provide a schematic or identify the IC's then a search of IC
makers would be necessary to identify it.

As Analog has produced a series with ever better conversion methods
indicates that there is a substantial market that other IC makers may be
trying to gain market share of.

The CoCo 3 does not need anything more than the AD72x chip does. The unknown
chip may have additional features or be lower in cost or more readily
available. Or it might be a custom chip to handle some special needs for his
main application in which case identifying the IC would not provide any
value.

I expect that it will work for the CoCo 3 in any case because the NTSC
timing is commonly used and is not changed by the conversion.

As the number of devices that produce RGB that also produce NTSC timing is
small now days, I suspect that the market will be shrinking.

While my Laptop has NTSC Video output only, I have seen ads for ones that
do include S-Video output. That would make the TV output useful which is
not the case for my laptop.
