I've been able to run mythtv with a pchdtv 3000 card and an nvidia video
chipset. I used Knoppmyth. There's a howto on the eff.org site.
http://www.eff.org/broadcastflag/cookbook/guide.php
The issues I have:
1) Not quite fast enough to watch tv and record at the same time on my
Athlon 3200+
2) KCET HD (our high def local PBS station) doesn't record right at
all. the sound is slow/jittery. It doesn't happen on any other channel,
just theirs. So I'm thinking it's an incompatibility between the
conexant chipset on the pchdtv and the signal that kcet is broadcasting.
So basically I've built a time-shifting-only box that unfortunately
doesn't record my favorite channels. But it records all the various
crime dramas and cop shows my wife watches.
But I'd rather give up live tv than give up control of what I record and
what goes on the convergence box... so no tivo for me. This thing allows
me to rip movies right to the hard drive, play emulated video games, rip
my ogg files, and move the files to other computers.
The "content industry" with their piracy worries can KMA.
