All this talk about interfaces and hardware add-ons and new software,
what it costs, and whether or not it is kosher CoCo, has been ignoring
a hard reality. The days of producing a CoCo product just for the
economic gain it might provide are over. All of the new products, from
Cloud 9's gadgets to Roy's VGA interface to Roger's software, are
labors of love. They start with an idea of what the innovator would
like to see, they proceed with the fun of actually making something
new, and they are sold (with the exception perhaps of the SuperIDE)
after the working model has been proven and the fun of discovery and
assembly has come to a close.
If you >want< a particular item badly enough, go ahead and develop it.
If you succeed, then offer it for sale to others (or give it away, it's
your baby). It's fine to publish a wish list, but the discussion seems
to have gotten somewhat pushy, as though people were implying that
someone else >ought< to develop these things because they might have
the skill or tools to do so. Those who have actually made a product
and offered it to others, either free or for a cost, are the heroes of
this list.
Viva la CoCo!
