If the source code weren't available you might have a valid argument
but the viewers are open source on sourceforge.net.  Besides, the
patents will not last forever (now 10 or more years old) and when the
technology becomes totally free the space savings will be impossible
to overlook.

For internet based documents there is no comparison between the
formats.  DjVu files are much smaller to begin with and content can be
served a page at a time where PDF is much larger and you have to
download an entire document at once to even view a single page.  DjVu
is going to become the preferred choice for web based delivery of
large documents.  That alone will guarantee survival of the format.

>From past experience... some of the people that are complaining may
not buy the disk for any number of reasons even if a pdf version is
produced.  What if they don't like the price?
