Well, there are some mini ITX with an integrated processor by VIA. I think the VIA C3 is P3 compatible. Check this site: http://www.mini-itx.com/hardware/intro.asp. The boards from the site store run up to $250. That's with no case, memory, drives, keyboard, or monitor, but all I/O is built in including ethernet. Boards start at $125 or so for slower versions. There's a P4 board for $178, but that's with a Socket 478 -- no precessor. Take a look at the "projects" link though. There's a mini ITX mounted in a Commodore 1541 disk drive case, a Sega Genesis case, and a Mac SE case (worlds fastest "Mac SE"). The most interesting project is 12 800MHz ITX boards running Free BSD as parallel processors.

As some of you may know, Apple released (officially) their new $499 Mac
mini today. Firewire, USB, VGA, hard drive, wireless/bluetooth
support, etc. in a TINY 2.9lb package. It's the closest thing to a
modern CoCo I've seen -- just tiny. Plug up your existing keyboard,
mouse (USB, else with an adpater) and monitor and go. A $500
Unix-based machine with a slick GUI. Elegant.

The $500 PCs have always been ugly to me -- huge boxes, ugly plastic,
etc. usually taking up more space than a CoCo setup!

I saw one in person today -- very impressive little machine. (I have a
20" iMac G5 at home, and a 2003 series PowerBook I am using right now.)
I just love the form factor.

Does anyone know of any other tiny and cheap machines (i.e. in the
price range of a CoCo with disk drive -- $500) out there?
