Ebay allows sniping software. It is normal acceptable behavior. Everyone
has access to sniping software, so where's the unfairness exactly?

Hmm, yes, bidding wars are great for the seller. I thought you said you
were buying?

-5 Flamebait. Ouch, that's way over the top, and I refuse to respond in
kind. Sniping is eminently rational bidding behavior. Luckily I have my
flame proof vest on. Have fun paying several times as much as you need
to, if you feel that it will advance human civilization somehow... "Gosh
hon, I just can't accept paying 75% less for that widget! It would be
unethical. What about the children?"
Like many things in life, I ask myself "What Would Spock Do?" And I'm
pretty confident, Spock would be snipe ALL of Ebay his auctions.

When I sell a product on ebay, I use longer auction times when I am
concerned that not enough people will see my auction and have a chance
to bid or set their snipe. Not everyone polls ebay or sets up automated
searches.
If Ebay wanted to stop sniping, they would randomize the ending time of
the auction +- 1 minute. They aren't doing that, and guess why. They
like snipers, period. And given that, plenty of sellers must like
snipers just fine too, since for the most part Ebay's bills are paid by
seller's fees.
I'm jumping out of this thread. Later,
