[OT] [Coco] Money

Hey, John, I didn't say it was worthless, Merch did. Value is a
perception. If you can get people to accept sheets of toilet paper
in exchange for anything, it has worth, i.e., value, to the
participants in the transaction. Wampum, nose rings, pumpkins,
toenail clippings -- all are potential money. That's why the IRS
hates barter; they want the tax in the equivalent number of US
dollars, but they accept checks and credit cards as easily (maybe
more easily -- are they smarter than we think?) as FRNs. Polish
zlotys had plenty of worth in Poland, even back when their exchange
rate was 10,000 zlotys/US dollar. You couldn't buy much with them in
the US, though. What's a CoCo worth? There was a time when people
paid over $200 CDN for a 64K CoCo2 (I know, in 1985 I was one of them!).

My comment, which was not included in your quote, had to do with the
counterfeiting being done by our global neighbors -- the ones who are
becoming very important at the UN. It's hard to counterfeit gold,
unless you're an alchemist. %^D

Please be careful with the quote levels in replying to posts.
