[Coco] MESS question

How do I change the memory size used by OS9 L2 to be more than 512K in MESS 
(V102)

Also, using Nitros9_6309_L2, if I type:

dir >textfile

The terminal locks up, requiring a CTRL-C to exit. The file is created, but 
is empty. Is this a known problem, or am I doing something wrong?
