While a battery backu psystem will work, you are still left in the 
same situation when batteries become to low in charge to sustain 
data.

>From the AL250 spec it appears a wee bit more difficult to add just 
a battery.  When you power down the chip and want to keep 
memeory backup, you will need to disable the oscillator. Otherwise 
the chip will draw about 30 to 50 mA. Even a CR2032 large coin cell 
wont keep backup for very long periods.
