Kevin,

sysgo/cc3go is just a program that runs on startup.  Basically, the 
kernel boots and knows only one thing:  what should I run?  That's the 
program that runs the shell.

On embedded systems, instead of sysgo running shell (parsing startup, 
changing dirs, etc.) it might simply fork off 
"AtomicReactorMonitorProcess" or whatever.

I think a good, detailed FAQ listing all the OS-9 components would help 
alot.  I had no clue for years what the purpose of init or descriptors 
or ... other parts ... was!
