These things are pretty common. Mac monitors used a dual row 15 pin  
connector, VGA-style monitors use a 3 row 15 pin connector. I'm  
guessing the monitor on the HP has a standard VGA cable, but you said  
it has 9 pins... Is it a flat panel monitor, by any chance? With an  
oval shaped connector? If so, you'll need that first type of adapter  
followed by a DVI to VGA adapter. Those are really, really common, and  
you should be able to pick one up at Radio Shack, if indeed it is that  
kind.
