I've found the same thing. Me being a proud left-hander, I at first
always attacked with A L. But later on I realized that attacking A R was
easier for me *because* I'm left-handed, so I switched. I for one have
never been able to beat the game without ZSAVE-ing a lot. I've tried
doing it without ZSAVE-ing, but I always die pretty quickly on the 4th
level.
