Ah, but in spite of the name, Java and Javascript have almost nothing
in common. As far as the Microsoft Java virtual machine goes, it was a
classic Microsoft implementation with extensions that only worked with
their JVM which only ran under Windows. Sun (who owns the Java
language) didn't like that overly much - their view is that Java can't
be Java if it has extensions. Microsoft lost that battle in court, and
stopped shipping their JVM. Javascript, however, doesn't use the JVM -
the web browser typically handles that. I believe the security hole in
IE with Javascript was patched, but it was an IE/Windows issue, not a
java issue.
