Hi Boisy. Well, I don't boot up my Coco very often. I used to, just to
back-port improvements to MM/1 UltiMusE into the Coco code -- quite a trick, with
the dynamic memory mapping and all. At some point I gave this up, when the
MM/1 features went beyond what could be fit into the Coco version (well, not
without a lot more effort -- we all know that *anything* is possible with the
Coco! :-)
But my Linux port of UME has long since passed the point where even the MM/1
would probably be able to handle the upgrades, and so I haven't booted my
Coco3 in probably close to a year. It was once state of the art, with 1 Meg (or
did I go to 2?), dual ST-225 20M hard drives on B&B, and three floppy drive sof
different sizes. But I never went to 6309, IDE HD, or other stuff.
So I don't use it much anymore. I do miss the assembly programming and the
close to the metal approach.
What I WOULD get back to it for, would be dedicated real-time systems, like
MIDI merge and control boxes, where I could program in assembler and blow code
into ROMs. That would let the Coco 2's lying around in my attic do something
useful.
