Maybe, but you can try a shortcut.  If the burn mark seems to affect only one 
or two strands of wire, just unwind the affected turn(s) and splice two good 
ends back together.  Losing one or two turns out of the coil probably won't 
affect much.

Or find someone with an otherwise shot CM-8 and scrounge its deflection coil 
and other parts (though I'm sure you've looked for one already).
