I prefer the GIME approach to allocating 8K blocks instead of 2K 
blocks. The 6829 is flexible in that up to 8 chips can be paralleled. 
But paralleling 8 chips so that up to 32 tasks can use up to 2 Meg of 
ram is hard of board real estate. 

Yep finding them is like finding hen's teeth. When you do, expect to 
pay a premium. No one wants to sell you just one or two. They want 
to unload their whole stock on you.
