Yes, that's the kind of hardware I had in mind, a stand-alone 6809 board.

Firmware could also be developed on a cross-assembler on a PC, but no reason 
it couldn't be done on a real Coco.

Of course if I could get the docs for my professional ROM burner, I could 
blow my own 8K or 16K EPROMs for a leftover Coco 2 board.

Problem is, I want to put 4 to 6 MIDI-capable ACIAs on the thing.  Unclear 
how to do that except on a custom design.  --Mike K.
