Well, I have to place myself in that "Southern American Hick" category
somewhat. My accent gives it away, but I do speak pretty normal, just
with a bit of a drawl (I've met a couple of you at CoCofests way back
I'm sure). No offense taken though.
If it weren't for a bunch of "da**ed yankees" in the military I wouldn't
have to go out west for my LAST tour! Would prefer to be within a days
drive of my home state so I can better afford to go back more than once
a year and maybe cultivate some contacts for a good job when I retire,
but no -- to many "DYs" in the military don't want to leave the south
east!! I know that for a fact, lots I've talked to don't want to go back
to the snow. Only a few westerners don't want to go back to the wide
open (semi isolated) spaces, but many do want to be a bit closer to a
larger city than Alamogordo New Mexico or Minot North Dakota (which I'm
being told are the only possible choices I have -- returning from a one
year stay in Korea away from my family on top of that!!). Maybe if I
picked a few off... but then it would look suspicious if I went on leave
and 2-3 "disappeared" from 3-4 bases that just happened to be on my
list, and they'd have to be my rank too... ;>
You DO know the difference between a yankee and a DY, right? Yankee is a
visitor, DY bought a house and plans to stay... ;>
