PNG was created as an attempt to get around the crazy LZW royalities that
comes along with dealing with the GIF format, etc. Unisys, I think was the
name, wrote me back one time informing me that $500 was a one-time royalty
if I charged for my program that used the LZW algorith, as in the GIF
format. Aw... I lost their e-mail address, shucks, what graphics viewer??
I never wrote a graphics viewer. :)
I've looked at PNG and it the file format looks like major overkill. These
guys might be smart, but they're no JPEG group, by any means.
Since we're on the subject. Now that P-3 is available in source code and
it's in the public domain, *and* I have some semi-converted JPEG source
code (JuddPeg), maybe someone could continue where I left off and be the
first person to bring JPEG to the CoCo world.
